I am a Biomedical Engineer, trained to find current problems in the health field and create new, innovative technology to address these problems. It didn’t take long for me to realize that this world is facing one major problem, and it is that there is little care for the health of the individual, and rather, that illnesses are only really cared for once they manifest as disease (i.e. poor health with clinically relevant symptoms). We have lost sight of the fact that as long as we take care of our bodies, by giving them the nutrition, movement, and rest that they need, they will take care of us. Once we understand and incorporate these healthy practices, we no longer have to spend our lives in and out of hospitals, battling one ailment after the other, before we eventually succumb to one that is too much for our health system to handle. It will take decades to restructure our health system into one focused on health and prevention, rather than disease. Until then, I am here to help you change your own perspective and your own habits, and to adopt a lifestyle that embraces health, so that you don’t have to participate in this illness based system.
The truth is, while science and technology have advanced greatly over the past centuries while overcoming incredible feats, a byproduct of this process is an overworked, over-stressed, undernourished population that is currently fighting a relatively novel battle, that of chronic disease. The mainstream method of fighting disease is to use the same old methods that worked for fighting off our old foes (i.e. bacteria, viruses, and physical trauma). We conquered these problems, so now we don’t have to worry about diseases like polio and smallpox. I believe we can conquer these relatively novel diseases, such as heart disease and diabetes, but it will not happen using the same approach.
The approach that uses drugs and surgical intervention to treat disease does not work to effectively address these chronic, noncommunicable (modern) diseases. While these interventions can be life-saving and should absolutely be used when necessary, they really only manage the symptoms and hold off the inevitable.
This method is old medicine, and now we need to take a step back and think about what we’re doing wrong, and then fix it.
There is a serious need to change the way we think about these disease, and it involves re-framing how we think about health and illness. We live in a world with an illness care system, where we expect to get sick, and will go to the doctor for a “quick fix” when illness eventually does set in. This leads to innumerable consequences, including a lower quality of life, more expenses, and a likely much shorter duration of life. My goal is to re-frame this paradigm into one where we opt out of this illness based system entirely so that we can go about our lives without worrying about illness, save money that would otherwise go to medicine and doctor’s bills, improve how we feel every day, and elongate our lives.
Because I want so bad for us all to get our health back, I’ll give you the answer right here. My approach is very simple – eat real food, move your body, and get adequate rest. Yes, that’s it.
All we need to do to conquer the vast majority of this modern disease epidemic is to eat real food, move our bodies, and get adequate rest. This is a simple but powerful piece of information, and it is absolutely backed up by hard science. Unfortunately, due to the enormous, confusing world of health and wellness, nutrition, and medicine, sorting out what is actually healthy is way more difficult than it needs to be. So I’m here to help with that. I’ve spent years researching diet and nutrition from all different perspectives (science, nutrition, medicine, industry, marketing, etc.), and I am here to present it all to you in as unbiased way as possible. I will do my best to present the facts, make sure to distinguish where those gray areas in science still exist, and to give you my advice on how to live a healthy lifestyle.
So if you think you’re up for making some changes, small or large, then I am here to help. I am here to explain what I see as the fundamental problem that is making this world so sick, and to explain simple ways to change your habits to gain control back over your own health. I will address different obstacles to better health, and give advice as to what you, as an individual, can do depending on what is setting you back. If you’ve made it this far, please give yourself at least a little bit longer to peruse this site. I’ll give you some good places to start.
