Making healthy decisions is tough. What makes it even more frustrating is that we are constantly told it should be so simple. Ever hear any of the following:
- Want to lose weight? Just eat less and exercise more. Or, just go low-carb/keto.
- Want to lower your cholesterol? Just take this pill and eat less saturated fat.
- Want to be healthy? Just cut out animal products and be a vegan.
We live in a culture that thrives off of telling us how to take easy actions based on over-simplified theories. While this is great for business and ego, it doesn't produce the results that we need if we are going to live out the healthy lives that we envision.
My mission is to help you, as the individual human being that you are, make healthier choices that support your needs, your lifestyle, and your current life circumstances.
Our work here does not involve trying to fit any sort of idealized image pressed down on us by the diet industry or any other aspect of our culture.
Here, it's all about you as you are guided with information that you believe will serve your own healing journey, learning to release the rest as you take steps forward towards your own version of better health.
Hi there, I'm Katie, and I'm a biomedical engineer (B.S.E., M.S.), trained to understand the human body and to design and develop technology to address specific health problems.
My work in academia and industry has focused on technology to address the later stages of poor health as clinically relevant symptoms arise and threaten the lives of individuals unless they seek treatment.
What I want more than anything, though, is to rid ourselves of the need for this technology by teaching individuals to make healthy choices that result in healthy bodies that do not decline into the far stages that we label with a disease diagnosis.
Even more, what I want is an ability to live out the years we do have to the fullest - which means having the healthiest version of our own bodies - ones that provide us with the energy, mental clarity, and physical ability to take on what we desire.
Of course, I recognize this is an idealized goal, and in reality what we need is to be able to bring together all the help available to us. The fact of today's time is that we have so much help available to us, and I want you to be able to find the help that best serves you as you move forward through each stop on your Journey to Better Health.
Most often, this begins by recognizing how you can release all that extra noise created by solutions that are not yours to take in, and to move forward by embracing that which does serve your own journey.
Given this mission, I spend much of my time diving deep into the science of why the human body breaks down, focusing my attention on how our choices directly impact different systems throughout the body, producing symptoms that take away from our ability to live life to the fullest and, downstream, threaten our ability to survive.
Meanwhile, I look to the nutrition, exercise physiology, and stress management data to determine what actions we can take to avoid this decline and instead build the healthiest body possible.
The reality is that we have access to a great wealth of knowledge that can help us avoid this premature decline into poor health and modern disease if only we can sort through the information to find what is scientifically valid and works for us, as individuals.
Finally, I combine this all with problem-solving tools and scientific knowledge from my biomedical engineering background, combining it with the wisdom of Eastern philosophy that teaches us how to look within our own selves for answers.
