Let's learn about the ONE thing underlying the progression of
poor health and disease in MOST individuals

Understanding Insulin Resistance

We all want a healthy body that is going to support us throughout the decades ahead of us.

And we're so tired of quick fixes that take all our time and energy and leave us lacking of sustainable results.

This is why I think it's worth taking some time to understand the important pieces of our physiology that are tied to poor health and disease progression.

If we can understand some of the primary pathways through which poor health and modern disease tend to progress (that is, the story-line that most individuals suffering from chronic disease tend to follow) - then we can make informed decisions that are grounded in valid scientific principles.

Where do we begin? Here, with 6 weeks dedicated to understanding how our routine behavior drives the progression of this key condition underlying poor health and disease.

Understanding poor health and disease is complex. As we try to understand how our actions impact the numerous pathways at play inside our bodies, we face a challenge in the form of too much information.

How are we supposed to understand how every action we take impacts each pathway in our body and how it relates to disease progression?

We can't, and this can be frustrating to deal with. For some of us, it may mean saying "forget it all" as we sit back and reach for another handful of chips and a swig of soda. For others, this may prompt them in the other direction, stressing over taking in as much information as possible in an attempt to hack the system - to understand each action, each pathway, and micro-manage the results based on this information.

With this 6-week program, I'm here to offer you an alternative approach to thinking about how we can adjust our patterns of behavior to ensure that we are leading our bodies down a path of good health.

What if we could understand one underlying condition that appears to go hand-in-hand with the progression of poor health and disease?

What if we could understand just 2 or 3 primary pathways that individuals tend to follow to reach this pathophysiologic condition?

With this information, we have the ability to understand how that which we choose to do routinely as we live out our lives will dictate how our bodies are able to function. Are our actions supporting the ability of our bodies to function, or are these actions driving our bodies down these primary pathways of poor health and disease?

One underlying pathophysiologic condition: insulin resistance:

Insulin, the body's primary pro-energy storage hormone, is charged with the important task of alerting the body when energy (primarily, sugar) is elevated in the bloodstream. When insulin is elevated, it signals to cells, tissues, and organs throughout the body to act in a way as to lower blood sugar.

Generally speaking, this means that energy will be stored away. It also means that energy will be stored as fat and fat will not be utilized as a fuel source.

The elevation of insulin in response to elevated blood sugar is an important piece of a healthy system.

What if the body cannot understand this important signal that blood sugar is elevated in circulation?

The result:

- blood sugar would be free to continue to elevate, putting the body in a situation that ranges from damaging to life-threatening.

- the pancreas would be forced to release more insulin, putting the body in a stronger pro-energy storage state.

Combined, this means that an insulin-resistant individual is living out his or her life in cycles of hyperglycemia (elevated blood sugar) and hyperinsulinemia (elevated insulin, creating a stronger pro-energy storage state).

Now, combine this with the fact that one study that found an estimated 50% of individuals in the modern world are already suffering from some degree of insulin resistance.

This means that somewhere around half of our population is living out life with unstable energy and a body that is regularly forced to store, not utilize, fat as a fuel source. How frustrating is that when we are all trying so hard to lose weight and gain energy to be able to live out the lives we want to live!

Let's get this straightened out by spending some time over the next 8 weeks to understand how our actions drive the progression of insulin resistance.

Once we understand how our actions impact these primary pathways through which disease tends to progress, we can then take action.

The Process:

Individuals living in the modern world have found themselves facing one particularly tough challenge: that of learning what it means to make healthy decisions while living lives in an industrialized world.

This is the challenge that I have devoted myself to understanding so that I can help myself and others address it:

  • How can we understand how our environment and behavior drives the progression of poor health?
  • From this place of understanding, how can we take aligned action to avoid (or to begin the journey of reversing) this path of poor health and modern disease?

Let me take you through the process of learning to make healthy decisions.

The process for becoming a healthier you is two-fold: you must first understand what the healthy decision is. You must then be able to put this knowledge into practice by taking aligned action.

The Reprogramming Process is designed with both in mind - to help you understand how to make healthy decisions and to help you go out and make them.

Phase 1: Start simple with 3 practices based on scientifically valid principles

As a species, we share a general set of traits that must be respected if our bodies will continue to support us. To begin making healthier decisions, we will learn the 3 practices that tend to build healthy bodies based on the design of the human body.

Here they are:

1. Build a diet based on real, whole foods

2. Move your body regularly and dynamically

3. Practice a balance of stress and rest

Phase 2: Enhance your ability to make healthy decisions by understanding your own human body.

The human body is a complex, dynamic system, made up of sub-systems that work together to keep you healthy. When our actions are misaligned with the functioning of these systems, the body is sent down a path to poor health and modern disease.

Specific actions that are truly healthy will vary depending on the individual. This means you may have some work to do to find out what works best for you!

It begins with an understanding of an overall process that we can follow that will lead us on a path of continued improvement
